Nutrition and Metabolism

Editors-in-Chief: Richard D. Feinman (USA)
M. Mahmood Hussain (USA)

Dear Colleague,

We would like to invite you to submit your next manuscript to Nutrition and Metabolism.

Nutrition and Metabolism is an Open Access, peer-reviewed, online journal focussing on the integration of nutrition, exercise physiology, clinical investigations, and molecular and cellular biochemistry of metabolism.

Currently the journal is specifically, but not exclusively, interested in manuscripts examining the metabolic effects of diet composition, interactions of macronutrients, effect of nutrients on gene expression, metabolic control and compartment models, nutritional effect of hormones, and genomic analysis of dietary phenomena.

The journal considers the following articles: original research, critical reviews, commentaries, brief communications, methods and book reviews.

The journal is available at www.nutritionandmetabolism.com and a number of articles have already been published. To keep up to date with the latest articles from Nutrition and Metabolism, why not register to set up email alerts?

We look forward to receiving your submissions. Please read below for further information about the journal and its publisher, BioMed Central.

Yours sincerely,

Richard Feinman

Editors-in-Chief, Nutrition and Metabolism

Nutrition and Metabolism, is published by BioMed Central, the Open Access Publisher. Read on to find out more about the benefits of submitting to Nutrition and Metabolism, recent articles, and how Open Access is funded.

How is Open Access funded?

To enable the journal to make all of its content Open Access, from the 1st March 2005, Nutrition and Metabolism will levy an article-processing charge for each manuscript accepted after peer review (payable on acceptance). The charge will be £330 (approximately US$600 or €500, dependent on currency fluctuations). The fee will be payable by the authors unless their institution is a BioMed Central member, but can be waived in cases of genuine hardship.

The fee pays for:

  • Administering thorough and fair peer-review
  • Preparing various formats of the manuscript for online publication
  • Immediate, world-wide, barrier-free and permanent access to the full text
  • Securing immediate full text inclusion in permanent archives, such as PubMed Central, Potsdam University, INIST and the National Library of the Netherlands
  • Securing inclusion in CrossRef, which enables references to be linked directly to their online versions, if available
  • Developing and maintaining electronic tools for submission, peer review and publication

Nutrition and Metabolisms' publisher, BioMed Central, operates a membership scheme to enable institutions to remove the burden of payment from individual researchers. Authors at institutions that are members of BioMed Central do not have to pay the article-processing charge directly as it is covered by a payment from their institution. These authors can submit an unlimited number of articles to Nutrition and Metabolism, as well as any other journals published by BioMed Central. Over 400 institutions worldwide have already become BioMed Central members.

Note that many funding bodies have shown support for Open Access by explicitly allowing the use of their grants to pay article-processing charges. These include the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the UK National Health Service.
